Are You Planning A Women's Retreat?

by Eelis Niemi

Does your women's organization plan a retreat every year? If you are in charge of this year's retreat, or if you are on the planning committee for the retreat, from planning workshops to arranging for a stand up comedy documentary, here are some ideas that might help you to plan a retreat that the women will enjoy and remember for many years to come.

Plan Workshops - As you plan the workshops for your women's retreat, consider themes that will be both interesting and informative and think of workshops that will help the women who attend in their everyday lives. For example, you could plan a workshop that deals with building better relationships not only with husbands, but with children, co-workers, and friends. Another workshop could focus on developing greater self confidence. Would the women benefit from a workshop that helps them to plan their finances better and to plan long-term financial goals? Think of having a panel in at least one of the workshops. Those on the panel might be professionals who could answer health-related questions or even controversial topics. Don't forget to make arrangements for those who will attend who will need interpreters, too.

Plan A Major Event - Besides attending various workshops, consider having one major event that will bring the retreat to a close. For example, invite a professional actress to impersonate well-known women like Queen Elizabeth, Dolly Parton, and Jane Fonda. Or, select women who are no longer alive—women like Mary Tyler Moore, Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe. Another idea is to ask the impersonator to focus only on impersonating women who have played a very major roll in history. For example, women like Betsy Ross or Eleanor Roosevelt and even young women like Anne Frank or Florence Nightingale. Have you considered showing a stand up comedy documentary as your final presentation? Choose a documentary from women like Joan Rivers, Whoopi Goldberg, Lily Tomlin, and Kathy Griffin. All of those women will more than likely include humor in their presentations, along with their own brand of philosophy. You can contact a documentary production company such as Cooperstown Properties, LLC for more information about their services. If you do choose a stand up comedy documentary for your final presentation, consider allowing enough time for the women in your group to talk about the different points that were brought up during the presentation.

After all of the workshops have been completed, and after your final presentation is over, think of giving each sister a going-away gift. Perhaps a journal where they could record their own important lives would be an appropriate gift.
